In 2023, we expect a lot of big releases. Starfield, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Final Fantasy 16 are among the biggest games coming out this year. But Hogwarts Legacy might top them all. The Harry Potter-inspired RPG is already proving to be a hit, even one month ahead of release.

Hogwarts Legacy Tops Steam Charts

Hogwarts Legacy comes out on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series on February 10, with Hogwarts Legacy last-gen versions arriving later this year. One month ahead of release, the game is already the top-selling game on Steam, showing that it will be one of the biggest releases of the year.

At the time of writing, only Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is above Hogwarts Legacy in the Steam sales charts – a free game that is featured there because of its microtransactions and free-to-play nature.

Industry insider @BenjiSales on Twitter has commented on the strong pre-order numbers, underlining the fantastic numbers and claiming a supposed strong showing on consoles as well. This claim can't be proven, as these numbers aren't as readily available as they are on Steam, but good performance on one platform strongly suggests similar developments on PlayStation, Xbox and possibly even Switch.

The people are hungry for some Harry Potter wizarding action, and we get it. It's the first time that the fantasy world gets a big, AAA open world RPG, and people were always gonna flock to that like sheep. Despite controversy surrounding J.K. Rowling's transphobic ideology, the game already proves to be a big deal.
