Some sound adjustments are heading our way in LoL Patch 14.2.
To make the game easier and more playable, Riot is working on some key adjustments to help players. While we might not get Smolder just yet in LoL Patch 14.2, there are going to be some other key changes that the team is working on.
Along with multiple balance changes, since Riot will need to work on multiple adjustments once the new items go live, we're also getting some SFX changes in the upcoming League of Legends patch.
SFX refers to "Sound Effects." These are the audio cues associated with various actions in the game, like abilities, movements, and environmental interactions. SFX enhances the gameplay experience by providing auditory feedback and immersion.
LoL Patch 14.2: Riot Making Major Changes To SFX
Riot Pehrek just released some information on Twitter, going over the changes that the audio team at Riot has been working on. Basically, they're going to be adjusting the sound effects of spells to make them easier to distinguish.
This is being done to help improve gameplay clarity, especially around teamfights which can get messy at times. The new sound effect changes will be based on the position of the spell on-screen.
He also gave a quick comparison video where players can hear how different the before and after are, and it seems that the community is pretty happy with these changes, since it will help clarify where abilities are coming from.
Heyo, here to share changes our Audio team is making! To help improve gameplay clarity, especially in team fights, the Audio team has made an update to this system to play SFX based on the position of the spell on-screen.

RiotKDan also wrote on Twitter that this change "makes everything have more spread to make it more clear where sounds are playing from." He added on that this makes it much easier to tell which abilities are coming from where.
Overall, the sounds feels wider and more spaced out, which is going to be great in fights... that is if you actually play with game sound on and don't just listen to music while playing.
