Fortnite's Midas Lives & could return in Chapter 4

We all thought he was dead. Or at least disappeared. But we were wrong. Donald Mustard has confirmed it: "Midas is not dead". Does that mean he will return in Chapter 4?

The world of Fortnite is huge, and the story behind it is often hard to grasp. But honestly, who's surprised? We've been hurled through time and space so many times in Fortnite that it shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that we lost our footing and have zero understanding of the lore or plot. But at least we'll never forget the biggest events and the most important characters, like Midas and Doomsday.

Review: Doomsday

If you remember, Midas wanted to destroy the island and the "Storm" forever to escape from the Battle Royal's loop. At first, his device called, "The Device," seemed to work and push back the storm. Suddenly, we saw players were haunted by visions where we found ourselves in an office where employees were frantically trying to counter Midas' scheme.

It feels like Epic is breaking the fourth wall by addressing the fact that Fortnite is a simulation. However, the office is of course also a fictionalized version of the company behind the Fortnite simulation, called IO.

Midas was supposed to have a role in the game, but he didn't want to continue the role. He started thinking on his own and built the device that would destroy the storm so that the characters could finally break out of the game.

However, when the event took place and Midas almost managed to implement his plan, Jonesy and his team invoked the wave as a new zone to prevent the escape. Later, this collapsed over the map and flooded the island.

Then, at the beginning of Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 3, we saw Midas sitting huddled on a raft, shaken by his failure. Shortly after, a shark appeared to put an end to him and his suffering. Or so we thought.

Midas Returns in Chapter 4!

Now over one and a half years later, it has finally been confirmed: Midas is not dead.

Donald Mustard, Chief Creative Officer at Epic, posted a video on Twitter, in which he briefly talks about the last week, how busy he was, but also how much he enjoyed his work. Actually, nothing special at first. But stay tuned, because at the end he spoils a very important teaser.

I think you're going to love what comes next. And I can't wait to see it. We have here a short sketch of a character that I think we all love. Midas. Midas is great... and not dead.

And that's the end of the video.

So folks, breathe a sigh of relief! Midas neither drowned nor was eaten by a shark. Given his mysterious absence, Midas' possible return has nevertheless been a long time coming.

But now, shortly before the start of Chapter 4, Fortnite's official Twitter account has once again posted a hint about Midas' return.

The summer version of Midas is seen in the teaser, which technically isn't him, but it's the closest hint they've given us. He and a few of his closest friends are playing soccer in the video. However, suddenly everyone stops and it seems something big is coming their way. However, the video ends in a black screen, so we don't know what happens afterwards.

In addition, two leaks were recently discovered that further thicken the plot. A Twitter user pointed out that files for a "well-dressed spy" were added. Who, if not Midas could have that file name? Furthermore, a spray was leaked that shows a chrome-plated Midas hand.

A new version of him, perhaps? Epic Games rarely does anything without detailed intent. Of course, as always, these are just leaks. Still, they suggest that Midas will once again play an important role in Fortnite's story.

And there's only one way to find out:
