Fans are devastated; news is scarce. Severance season 2 is taking its sweet time. Nearly two years after the finale and renewal of the show, Ben Stiller thankfully confirmed: they are still doing it. We've got all the info for you, including the expected release date, the returning cast and even more.
The wait for Severance Season 2 is long and agonizing. While the show has been renewed for a second season back in April 2022 – which was amazing news at the time – the series takes its sweet time to continue the story.
In Severance, Lumon Industries employee Mark basically lives two lives: one at work, one outside of work. At work, he only has work related memories and, vice versa, doesn't remember anything about his job when he's off, living the "innie" and "outie" lifestyle due to the "severance." Obviously, the methods of this company can't be that innocent if employees aren't allowed to even remember their job outside working hours. Mark realizes this, too, uncovering the mysteries of Lumon.
It's been nearly two years since there have been mysteries, though: where is Severance Season 2? We've gathered everything there is to know.
Ben Stiller Gives An Severance Update – Small One, But An Update!
You're not alone in nervously biting your nails in anticipation for Severance's second season: a fan of the show couldn't take it any longer and just reached out to director Ben Stiller, clutching at straws at this point.
We are working on it. https://t.co/tZg2XYeLTr
— Ben Stiller (@BenStiller) January 3, 2024
And won't you look at that: Ben Stiller had mercy and, while he didn't share anything of value, he at least eased the fear of Severance being canceled all together.
Working on it is good, right? It's alive, that's as good as it gets for now. But when will we finally see the fruits of this alleged work Stiller is currently doing? We need to see results, good sir!
Severance Season 2 | Expected Release Date
The production process for Severance's second season hit rough seas when the Hollywood strikes shut down nearly the whole industry in 2023. Filming was nearly done in May, but the strikes delayed Severance just like many other productions.
Calculating with the schedule of the first season – eight months of shooting, six months of post-production and a release two months after that – would have set up season 2 for a spring 2024 release. With the strikes, though, Severance also had to take a break from filming.
Ben Stiller assured that they are still on track, though: "We're on the same really slow schedule we've always been on. Same target air date we've always had." Yeah, really slow being the keyword. Alas, there is no official release date yet. Our guess, though? We think 2024 is still likely, and we can imagine we'll get the second season by the end of the year.
The Cast Returns For Severance Season 2, And Then Some
There's no reason why the cast should change and as long as nothing unexpected happens, we're pretty sure to see the familiar faces from the first season, including:
- Adam Scott as Mark
- Patricia Arquette as Harmony
- Zach Cherry as Dylan
- John Turturro as Irving
- Britt Lower as Helly
- Tramell Tillman as Milchick
- Dichen Lachmann as Ms. Casey/Gemma
- Christopher Walken as Burt
- Jen Tullock as Devon
- Michael Chernus as Ricken
On top of that, according to Variety, fans can look forward to an amazing extended cast. While the roles are still undisclosed, Gwendoline Christie, Alia Shawkat, Bob Balaban, Merrit Wever, Robby Benson, Stefano Carannante, John Noble and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson have been cast and are going to join in on the fun.
But when that fun's going to start at Apple TV+ is anyone's guess at this point – we'll make sure to keep you updated!
