Twitch is shutting down in South Korea, meaning many streamers will have to jump ship to another streaming service if they want to continue doing what they love. In protest, some streamers took things a step further, because what is Twitch going to do, eh?
Twitch is shutting down in South Korea, which means multiple streamers are going to have to find a new home for their content. In protest and as a big "F U' to Twitch, a bunch of streamers have decided to spice things up for their last day on the platform.
In December 2024, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy explained that operating costs in South Korea were far too high and therefore the Korean branch was being shut down by February 27. So, with that final day approaching, streamers got creative.
South Korean Twitch Streamers Get Creative
With many streamers having to find either a new job or a new home for their content, many took the final opportunity to post unique content that might not align 100% with Twitch's content guidelines.
One streamer, Daeyong2 decided to stream adult games on his channel. Of course, he didn't show everything, trying to keep some of the nudity under control with a black bar to prohibit from the most obscene images being shown. But on a normal day this would have caused the streamer to be banned right away.
Similarly, other streamers have also taken to trying something more risqué than normal. For example, Irin-Chan went on stream in a pretty revealing outfit, much to the surprise of her viewers.
It seems that with Twitch shutting down these streamers have nothing to lose anymore, hence why they have gone to such lengths to protest against the shutdown of Twitch.

On Reddit, others agree, with one commenter writing, "it’s not like Twitch banning them does anything" and another agreeing saying, "if that’s the way to go out, alright. More power to them, all I say. What are they gonna do? Ban ’em?".
Twitch might be shutting down in South Korea, but the company was just hit with a $300K fine for violating South Korea's telecom law by removing VODs from the platform in the country. It seems like there could be more fines in the future for Twitch because of this, so we're going to have to wait and see if anything else comes to light soon.
