A PS5 remaster of The Last of Us Part 2 has finally been confirmed and is coming on January 19, 2024. It includes technical upgrades and even some new content.
It has been rumored and leaked before, now it has finally been confirmed: The Last of Us Part 2 will come to PlayStation 5.
After the official announcement trailer leaked, Sony and Naughty Dog bit the bullet and finally confirmed the long-rumored remaster.
The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered For PS5 Version Coming In January
The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is coming to PS5 on January 19, 2024, a mere 3.5 years after the initial release on PS4. I won't get into the debate whether this is really necessary, but I do want to mention how crazy it is that the time-till-remaster is getting shorter and shorter.
Anyway, what's in this package? Naughty Dog isn't just re-releasing the same game, they are adding some nice bonuses on top. Next to "graphical enhancements" and other technical shenanigans, there is also legit new content in this version.
This includes "Lost Levels with dev commentary", which are "early-development slices" of sequences that were cut from the full game. Pretty neat, but not quite as exciting as the brand-new No Return roguelike mode.
This survival mode will let players focus on the strong gameplay of The Last of Us Part 2 by offering a run-based horde mode in different levels and with a slew of playable characters, including some that have never been playable in the series before. Sounds really fun!

Here are all changes and additions for The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered:
- PS5 technical enhancements
- Graphical improvements
- 4K in Fidelity Mode
- Improved loading times
- DualSense integration
- No Return
- Roguelike Survival mode
- Run-based
- Lost Levels with developer commentary
- Guitar Free Play
- New Outfits and Skins
Thank God There Is An Upgrade Path
Now, this is not a "full" "remake" like The Last of Us Part 1, so thankfully that convinced Sony to offer an upgrade path for the game. That means that owners of The Last of Us Part 2 can get the remaster for just $10, which is not too bad considering the new content and "upgraded" graphics.
The game already looked incredible on PS4, how much can they really upgrade? Anyway...
Oddly enough, Sony and Naughty Dog haven't revealed how much the remaster will cost on its own. Neither in the standard edition, nor the new W.L.F. Edition, which comes with some neat goodies:
- Full game in steelbook case
- 47 Total Society of Champions Trading Cards
- Washington Liberation Front Patch
- Four Enamel Pins
Pre-orders will go live on December 5, which is when we will actually find out how much this thing costs. Unfortunately, there's no word on a PC version yet.
