Tomb Raider, one of the most iconic gaming franchises ever, is getting an anime adaptation on Netflix. Here's everything we know about the release date, plot, cast and more, including a trailer.
Netflix is going hard on the anime adaptations at the moment with newly-announced shows like Devil May Cry, their recently released Castlevania spin off Nocturne, PLUTO, and Tomb Raider.
Tomb Raider is a widely recognized franchise that consists of multiple action-adventure games, films, comics, and novels. The story follows Lara Croft, a British archaeologist on quests for mystical artifacts. So, think Indiana Jones but without the whip and with a badass female lead.
Tomb Raider On Netflix: Release Date Estimation
On September 28, Netflix introduced us to their new batch of anime originals the streaming service plans to release. While most of these new shows arrived with a release date, some didn't. Sadly, the Tomb Raider anime is among those that didn't get a release date yet, only a "coming soon".
Considering that we got release dates for most of the other shows (even a simple 2024 for the Masters of the Universe reboot), it seems like Netflix is rather conservative with their biggest titles, Tomb Raider and Devil May Cry.
Taking that into account, it seems rather likely that we will have to wait well into 2024, before we will be able to join Lara Croft on her expeditions.
Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft | Reveal Trailer
Luckily, Netflix wasn't so unreasonable as to give us nothing to look forward to and provided us with a little teaser for the Tomb Raider anime.
Granted, it's not the most revealing trailer, but still, it builds enough tension to get us excited about the time the series officially releases. Not only does the animation look clean as hell, but they also tease an underlying drama and supernatural element that makes the show look all the more intriguing.
Tomb Raider Anime On Netflix: The Cast So Far
Regarding the cast, we only have limited information so far. We do know though that the iconic Lara Craft will be portrayed by none other than Hayley Atwell.
If that name doesn't ring a bell, that's rather disappointing, as she's not only voicing an action icon, but is one herself! Atwell is probably best known for her portrayal of Agent Carter in the MCU but has since expanded her repertoire, even starring in the newest Mission Impossible movie.
Looks like now she wants to go one step further and attach her name to the action icon that is Lara Craft.
Atwell will be joined by showrunner Tasha Huo, whose most famous work is The Witcher: Blood Origins (hopefully that's not the best she could do).
