The new League of Legends season has just kicked off and in LoL Patch 14.1, one type of champion seems to be stronger than the rest and that is once again the mages.
LoL Patch 14.1 is going to gett a hotfix update at some point in the next few days. That much has already been revealed by Lead Gameplay Designer on the League of Legends team, Matt "Riot Phroxzon" Leung-Harrison on Twitter.
This announcement has prompted some players to let the balance team know what they're most afraid of with the current state of the game. One of the big question marks is burst and just how strong mages are with LoL Patch 14.1.
LoL Patch 14.1: Players Worried Over Mage Burst Damage
Mages are either complete garbage or way too strong, at least that is the sentiment in the community. A large part of players hate how weak and immobile the class was during the mythics era, but it seems that mythics have now left the building, mages can once again enjoy their burst-power from previous seasons.
Riot Phroxzon has explained that the team is aware of how strong burst is currently and that they're going to be monitoring it for another week or so to find out where this power is truly coming from. Basically the team wants to see whether it's champions being strong, that AP items are overpowered or that other item classes are just generally weak.
We're going to be doing a balance and stability (bugs) micropatch either tomorrow or the day after to address balance outliers.

Burst might be high rn, we'll be doing an audit to see how much is start of season chaos and where it's coming from (could be ap just has high winrate,...
Some players worry that mages will be returning to other lanes and taking over the meta like they did in previous seasons, which is something Riot will likely want to avoid at all costs, hence why it's a good thing that Riot is being so open about their timeline for adjustments.
For the most part though, players do think that the game is more fun than in previous years, thanks to the item changes. Now with just a bit of fine tuning, adjustments to damage information in the tooltips and then we should be off to one of the best starts to any League of Legends season to date.
