Why Are Patch Updates So Frequent in LoL?

Patch updates are so frequent due to the high number of champions and systems in League of Legends. Let's also not forget the spaghetti code this game runs on, it's probably crucial to keep the patches up to date, so the developers don't get lost.

League of Legends is already over 10-years-old and has more than 160 champions and counting. With patch updates Riot can assess the champion's strength and weaknesses and make adjustments accordingly, since sometimes a single item change can make a champion OP. Therefore, it's important to keep the game updated.

Patches usually go onto the Public Beta Environment (PBE) before they go live, so players with a PBE account can also test out the updates there. This way the developers have data to see whether their changes should be implemented on the live servers or not.
